Cowhorn and UPPER FIVE partner to produce Sauvignon Blanc to start
APPLEGATE VALLEY, OR — Cowhorn, the Rogue wine country’s only certified-Biodynamic® estate, and UPPER FIVE, the up-and-coming region’s only other certified-organic vineyard, have partnered to produce new wine under a cooperative label, SULLIVAN/STEELE.
The new label takes it name from Terry Sullivan of Upper Five Vineyard and Bill and Barbara Steele of Cowhorn Vinyard & Garden. COWHORN launches The RINSE Project
Thursday | 21 October 2010
Wine Bottle Renew partners with Biodynamic duo Bill and Barbara Steele to close the loop on wine bottle waste
APPLEGATE VALLEY, OR — COWHORN, the Rogue wine country’s only Biodynamic estate, is partnering with Wine Bottle Renew to pioneer The RINSE Project, a bioregional program that closes the loop on wine bottle waste. Of the 300 million cases of wine sold each year in the United States, 70 percent of the bottles end up in land fills, not recycling centers, and none are being reused–but not for long.
This October, COWHORN will be the first Southern Oregon winery to ship used bottles through The RINSE Project and intends to source from Wine Bottle Renew for future bottlings. The project enables the winery to cut its carbon footprint and per bottle cost while delivering an added value to customers: bottles that are better for the wine and the world.

Boutique Biodynamic Oregon estate winery rep’d by Revel Wine
APPLEGATE VALLEY, OR — COWHORN, a small Southern Oregon estate winery that is winning national praise for its first releases, is now available in California through an exclusive deal with Revel Wine.
The tiny winery has made a big name throughout its home state and beyond for producing wines of exceptional purity and pleasure. It’s 2008 Spiral 36, a hand-crafted blend of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier, was an early sell-out in its first year prompting Northwest Palate to make it their “Pick of the Palate” and The Oregonian to name it their number one choice for a perfect picnic pairing. Wine writer Matt Kramer praised its 2009 Spiral 36 as “a rare accomplishment” of “very deft winemaking.”

Demand grows for boutique Biodynamic® winery’s white Rhônes
APPLEGATE VALLEY, OR — COWHORN® Vineyard & Garden, a small Southern Oregon winery winning big national praise for its first releases, is planting new vines to keep up with growing demand for its Biodynamic® white Rhône varietals. The estate will add an acre each of, Marsanne and Roussanne, and three more acres of its perennially sold-old Viognier. In total, the farm will plant 13,700 new grapevines.
As part of a master plan developed nearly a decade ago with holistic estate advisor Alan York, over half of the 117-acre estate is reserved for gardens, habitat, forest and riparian areas with just 50 acres set aside for vineyards. Following the expansion only 21 acres will be in cultivation, including 17 in vineyard and 4 in gardens, primarily asparagus.
